For too long the long-term care sector has been neglected by government, leaving vulnerable seniors exposed during the pandemic. Unifor recommends:
- Establish and fund standard minimum care hours, providing four hours of direct care for each resident per day
- Expand bed capacity
- Implement a provincial staffing strategy that includes improving working conditions for staff
- Ensure more full-time and permanent work
- Increase measures for training and recruiting care staff into the system
